I Can’t Afford to Go on Vacation!

I can’t Afford to Go on Vacation! In today’s economy a lot of people are still struggling and might not have a lot of extra funds to take a family vacation due to the recent years of drought we have been facing so to speak. If the situation I have briefly described is you, fear not, there are many great ways to save money on family vacations while still having a great memory. First, you can save money by purchasing tickets for events and attractions in advance. By taking the time to plan early you can avoid prices going up at the last minute. For instance, if you are planning a family vacation to New York City and want to see some Broadway shows, purchase your tickets in advance of arriving in the city. Depending on desirability, tickets for various shows can skyrocket at the last minute and either you pay out the roof, or you don’t go. Frankly, I don’t like the second option of not going.

Second, if you are going somewhere sunny, purchase sunscreen and other necessities at home before you travel. Tourist destinations tend to increase the prices of such items since they are a necessity in the sun and know people will buy it no matter what. You may use the excuse that there isn’t enough room in your luggage, or that TSA will just take it anyway when you go through security. In order to avoid having TSA take your sunscreen or other toiletries, pack them in a luggage that you have checked, or make sure that the bottles are under 3oz. A way to do this is to purchase little travel sized bottles and fill them up with your sunscreen or other items and leave the large bottle at home.

Third, look into renting a house instead of staying at a hotel. Not only is the cost usually cheaper, it also allows you the option of cooking your meals rather than always eating out and incurring that added expense. Finding a house to rent doesn’t have to be difficult. A great way to find something that works well for your needs and budget is by working with a travel agent. They will be more than willing to help you find what you are looking for. Keep in mind that time is money, so by working with a travel agent you are freeing yourself of time researching all of your possible options. Although you might be very particular when booking someone’s trip, mistakes can happen and you might find yourself needing some liability coverage. In order to prevent this from ever happening to you, make sure you are always covered by travel company insurance.

Fourth, you may consider choosing a vacation destination that is within driving distance from your home. Sure it may take up a bit more time driving to the destination, but it is usually a more economical choice compared to flying. Plus, you will already have a car to use when you get there.

Fifth, don’t feel like you need to be on the go all the time. Enjoy getting out and enjoying tourist activities, but you are on vacation, take time to also simply relax and enjoy one another’s company. Make these memories last a lifetime. Cherish the time with those you love.
